Sisters Who Pray Together: Week 3, Courageous Women of Action

Scripture Focus

Judges 4:4–9, 17–22

"Go! This is the day the Lord has given Sisera into your hands. Has not the Lord gone ahead of you?" – Judges 4:14 (NIV)

Who Were Deborah and Jael?

Deborah was a prophet, a judge, and a leader of Israel.  She was bold, wise, and obedient to God’s voice. Deborah didn’t just give spiritual advice; she went into battle with faith. Jael, a woman who lived in a tent, became an unlikely heroine. She wasn’t a warrior by trade, but when the opportunity came to defeat Israel’s enemy, she rose to the occasion with bravery.

These two women didn’t just pray, they acted. And they supported God’s people with courage, confidence, and conviction.

Devotional Thought

Sometimes, encouragement comes in the form of action.

While prayer is our starting place, faith often requires us to move. Deborah boldly encouraged Barak to trust God’s plan. Jael took courage into her own hands. Neither woman hesitated when it was time to stand up for what was right.

Sisters who pray together are also sisters who remind each other to be brave. There are times when God will ask you to speak up, step out, or stand firm—and when that moment comes, your encouragement might be the spark your sister needs to do the same.

You may never know the strength your words or quiet actions bring to someone else. But your courage to uplift, to intercede, and to act in faith is a powerful expression of love and obedience.

Mini Bible Study: Sisters Who Encourage Boldness in Faith

Spend time this week meditating on these scriptures that show how encouragement and action go hand-in-hand:

Joshua 1:9 – "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid... for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

➤ How can I speak strength into my sister’s situation this week?

Judges 4:14 – "Go! Has not the Lord gone ahead of you?"

➤ Where might God be calling me to go—by faith—in support of someone else?

Proverbs 31:25 – "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come."

➤ How does embracing godly strength help me encourage others?

Hebrews 10:24 – "Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds."

➤ What action can I take this week that will inspire courage in someone else?

I am not afraid to stand in the gap, to speak words of boldness, or to act in obedience to God. Like Deborah and Jael, I am equipped to lead, to serve, and to strengthen others with faith and courage.
